At last I managed to complete a Hornet Leader, Tour of Duty game!
The Devastating Interceptors commanded by Black Shadow completed a tour of duty after Libya, Desert Storm and World War III Mediterranean campaigns.
The World War III Mediterranean campaign was fascinating! The squadron recorded seven Complete Success missions and six Success missions. The only problem was we got shot up during mission 11 which was a Fighter Sweep and thus recorded our first Complete Failure. So prior to mission 15 we could still possibly fail to complete the tour because of a second complete failure.

We only had six Hornets Ready for the last mission but at least there were enough non-fatigued pilots available to fly them. Target turned out to be a Large Airfield with heavy MiG, moderate SAM and ten Hornets recommended! Mission briefing revealed a Night Mission! Then a Munitions Shortage for special conditions! This mission seemed doomed from the start!
Once airbourne our luck changed. Whilst target-bound, a pair of Tomcats joined us and on our arrival over the airfield only six MiG 23 faced us. The mission was a complete success and to top it all off, on our return our exploits got News Coverage with CCN!
I had played four tours of duties in the mid 90's with all resulting in a Loss of Command:
Below is artwork on 8 cards which I use with the Random Aviator Generator for Tour of Duty purposes. Print actual size. WARNING! Front and back of cards do not line-up. Do not attempt to line them up before cutting. Mount the front of the cards and cut them up (make sure they are exactly (2.25" x 3.5"). Then mount the back (shaken side) of the cards individually.
