American Provincial Troops 1757.pdf |
Provincial troops were raised by the colonial governors and legislatures for extended operations. The provincial troops differed from the militia, in that they were a full-time military organization conducting extended operations; differing from the regular British Army in that they were recruited only for one campaign season at a time. These forces were often recruited through a quota system applied to the militia. ![]() From left to right, the two Ranger! trays forming in the town square depict companies of provincial soldiers from the towns of Massachusetts, New York or New Jersey if a northern campaign or Virginia, Maryland or North Carolina if a southern campaign. ![]()

![]() Introduction This is an interesting game recreating the nightmare Napoleon found himself in 1812. The player commands a depleted Grande Armée attempting to cross the Berezina River as it disintegrates. It’s pretty depressing for the player but gives a good insight and feel into what happened over those four fateful days. Play of the Game I found it a very tough game to play with the outdated solitaire rules not helping. Also the Russians would have a huge advantage in a two-player game. I added some new solitaire rules as I played. These rules make the Russian AI more detailed and should give for a smoother game. ![]() Introduction Having played Malta Besieged 1940-1942, I decided to purchase a game from the Victory Point Games, State of Siege series. Zulus on the Ramparts! had been on my wish list for a long time so I opted for that game. At first glance on arrival, I was impressed with the beautiful game components and the rules which are well-written and clearly presented. I watched the movie ZULU (1964) then played a series of eleven games through the months of June and July. Photos are from my last game. Optional Rules Over the first few games, I tried various combinations but I found that the most complete game unfolds when using the full deck of fifty cards and all optional rules. ![]() The Compagnies Franches de la Marine were an ensemble of autonomous infantry units attached to the French Royal Navy bound to serve both on land and sea. Large garrisons were maintained at Quebec, Montreal, Louisbourg and New Orleans. From left to right, the three Ranger! trays depict companies of marines from the garrisons of Montreal, Quebec and Louisbourg. Notice the Montreal marines in summer campaign dress, with white coat removed and carrying back packs...apart from the recruit that is! ![]() Background Malta Besieged is a solitaire strategy boardgame covering the epic World War Two struggle between the British Commonwealth (Allies) and Germany and Italy (Axis) in the Mediterranean Theater during 1940-1942. The game uses a very original game system and works well. The game was published by Victory Point Games but seems to be unavailable now. |
