Led by their respective officers, two French grenadier companies wind their way through some rough ground. These are the first two French & Indian Wars companies I’ve painted which are part of my Ranger! French army of circa 1757. The whole force consists of: two grenadier companies, three line companies, three marine companies, two Indian warbands, three artillery pieces complete with limbers and one supply wagon. The La Sarre grenadier company is to the left and the Languedoc (or Royal Roussillon) grenadier company is to the right. Some substantial British reinforcements for the front! These 4 trays complete my set of 6 Ranger! British line companies. Grenadiers in Ranger! fight as line unless they have scenario specific rules. By order-of-march, the models depict the 1st Foot or 60th Foot (Blue) leading, followed by the 43rd Foot or 47th Foot (White), then the 44th Foot or 46th Foot (Yellow) and bringing up the rear the 22nd Foot, 27th Foot or 40th Foot (Buff). “The sharp notes of the bagpipe mingle with the ring of sapper's axes as dappled sunlight, breaking through oak and hemlock branches, falls on red coats, dark plaids, and the dull steel of broadsword and dirk — The Black Watch has come to America.” Harris J. Andrews That’s the second Ranger! tray completed. Models depict the grenadier company of either the 42nd Foot or 78th Foot. |
